Although I might add a statement bracelet or ring from time to time, I generally wear the same few pieces of jewellery every single day: a necklace with a meaningful pendant, a thin ring and two studs per earlobe. Oh, and my nose ring of course :) In fact, I hardly ever take these off, not even at night. Do you have a jewellery uniform? Tell me in the comments! I learned how to make friendship bracelets this summer and I’ve been wearing this pastel coloured one ever since. But I know that once fall starts I’m not going to want to wear it every single day. The problem with friendship bracelets is that they have to be tied around the wrist, which is cool if they are used to symbolise everlasting friendship. But I think most of us aren’t wearing them for their traditional meaning and would prefer to […]
A couple of weeks ago I decided it’s time to learn how to make friendship bracelets. I kind of missed the boat when they were popular in the nineties; my neighbour was making them constantly and tried to teach me, but my seven-year old self just didn’t get it :). But now, with a bit more DIY experience under my belt, it turns out that the technique really is as easy as everyone says it is and I will definitely […]
I spontaneously decided to turn my dolphin necklace into an ankle bracelet. All I did was shorten the chain of the necklace (which I wore in this post), but there are also some less ‘invasive’ ways to customise your jewellery, so you can wear it around your ankle without ruining it for its original purpose: bracelets: since your wrist is likely to be smaller than your ankle, elongate bracelets by attaching an extension made out of a piece of chain […]
Here is a little DIY idea that is great for using up any leftover pieces of chain or thread you might have lying around. The bracelets are inspired by the jewellery line ‘Orpelia’ that I saw at Topshop last week. They had all these really simple necklaces and bracelets made out of only one strand of coloured thread with a little gold or silver pendant or double-layered with some fine chain. All pieces cost at least 20£… too much for […]
Since this DIY I’ve been experimenting with mixing coloured thread and metal chains. I got the idea for this clever weaving technique from Honestly…WTF, and I decided to break free from my current favourite colour scheme of whites and pastels and make a super fat (turned out to be 1″) , heavy and colourful bracelet :) I’ve actually been saving this post for a while now because I’m going to give the bracelet to my cousin as a present. well […]
Hello! I’ve got another DIY tutorial for you, for a little project I did when I was at home for Easter. Well, actually it was a little more time consuming than some of my other DIYs, mainly because I lacked some of the necessary handyman skills:). It’s probably a quick one-hour project for anyone who knows how to mount stuff onto walls and all that. I was going to make this as a coat hanger, but actually you can use […]
If you check out the jewellery DIYs I posted on this blog, you’ll see that they are mainly for bracelets. That’s because I see bracelets as part of my outfit, while earrings and necklaces are like my piercings: more a part of me than my outfit and I hardly ever change or even take them off. I also like necklaces that are special to me or remind me of something. I’ll either wear a gold or a silver thin necklace with a little […]
love aesthetics I looove seeing other people’s wardrobes and I love reorganising mine and am always searching for a better system. Maybe because it involves thinking about both fashion and decorating… I’m not sure. I guess the big challenge when it comes to storing pretty much anything, but especially clothes, is fitting everything into a confined space while balancing aesthetics with practicality (meaning you can see everything and take items out easily, etc). I like any kind of open storage; especially […]
Ear cuff from Topshop Clutch from some little shop on Brick Lane. Nail polish – Rimmel Green Grass I realised I own a lot of jewellery made from sea shells. I can’t wait for summer to wear them all in their natural habitat :) natural hair Have a great weekend!
I got the idea for this DIY from this lovely mixed metal bracelet from Jewelmint. I love how they used rings in different colours and shapes to make a bracelet. I was really sad when I found out that Jewelmint doesn’t ship to Europe, but I figured this is what DIY is all about: making and more importantly improving ready-made things. In this case I am improving the bracelet’s affordability and accessibility :). I used to hate mixing gold and […]
I love reading about other people’s favourite things, whether they are places, people, books, products or anything new they discovered. Here are my current favourites in pictures. I got this necklace from Urban Outfitters just before christmas and have been wearing it nearly every day. Some reading material. I liked LOVE for the photography, Vogue for the editorials on the SS 2012 collections and National Geographic is just amazingly interesting in general.
Did you know that coconuts make great storage units? They can easily be transformed into any sort of cup/tray/organiser to hold everything from make up or jewellery to paint brushes and candy. I actually got this idea from my boyfriend; I said I didn’t like coconut water and so he got some whole coconuts to prove me wrong. I still don’t like the taste of them but I did get the idea of using the shell for a quick DIY project :). I experimented […]
I wanted to share with you two DIYs I did in the last few weeks all in one post because in a different form they either already have their own tutorials on this blog or weren’t my idea. All of them are the kind of DIY project I like best: quick to make but with a pretty end result. What DIY projects have you guys finished recently? I am always looking for more ideas, do you have any suggestions for what […]
I have always loved slave bracelets and was forever searching for them until I realised that they are actually really, really easy to make yourself. All you need is some chain, a few rings and about 10 minutes of time. This tutorial is for a simple slave bracelet with five middle strands. As soon as you get the hang of the basic design you can add beads or change the structure of the chains and create any kind you want. […]
