Above all, I believe in the ‘less is more’ approach when it comes to skin care. Finding the right skin care regime is undoubtedly the most important and at the same time, trickiest part of streamlining your beauty routine, but once you have found it, you will be able to get away with less make up now, and also in the future – a bonus if you prefer the natural, bare-faced look. For me, the ideal skin care routine consists […]
After my first rather theoretical post on the minimalist approach to beauty, this article will show you how to apply the approach to streamline your current stock of products and everyday habits. The process is not rocket science and I won’t be prescribing you a detailed recipe for the ideal beauty routine; the point is rather to inspire you to spend some time editing your product collection and perfecting a set routine instead of just letting products pile up, using […]
It’s been nearly one year since my first make up routine/ organisation post, and although it might seem as though I haven’t changed that much, my approach has become a lot more refined: I have scaled down my product collection even further, developed a fuss-free routine, optimised my storage method and now only own products that I use at least every two weeks. My everyday look is still super simple, but I also made sure that I have enough colours […]
My current nail favourites closely match the colour scheme of my fall/winter wardrobe: Lots of white, greys, cool pastels and a touch of red. I used to do my nails every 2-3 days, but nowadays my trusty Seche Vite top coat allows me to wear a colour for about a week. Here are some more close-ups of the four polishes that I have been rotating for the past couple of months: Topshop Valley – A pretty minty colour with fine silver […]
In my last post I wrote about how the ideas of minimalism can be used to transform a closet full of ill-fitting impulse buys into a well-curated wardrobe that perfectly reflects your aesthetic preferences and lifestyle. If you truly want to minimalist-ify your personal style you need to rethink not only your approach to fashion, but also the other aspects that shape your personal style: your hair, make up, skin care and nails. The beauty equivalent of a stuffed wardrobe full of […]
On the same day my go-to lip balm from the Body Shop ran out I stumbled across these beeswax bars at Whole Foods. Brilliant timing. A DIY lip balm has been on my to-make list for ages so I also picked up some raw cocoa butter and two little containers from MUJI and started cooking. Inspired by my favourite perfume, Prada Candy, I added some honey to the mix to create a very sweet, rich scent. The MUJI containers have […]
Here’s a little beauty inspiration for fall. Fresh faces, pops of colour, and pony tails. Check my pinterest for more. Sources: Unknown, Studded Hearts, Love Aesthetics, unknown, unknown, afterDRK, unknown, Daily Candy, Bea Herzberg’s Pinterest, unknown, Harper’s Bazaar, Free People.
I know everyone still has that summery mindset, but I actually can’t wait for fall to start properly. I’m really looking forward to all the new textures, materials and most importantly, new colours. That’s where nail polish comes in handy for someone like me who doesn’t really wear a lot of bright make up colours: it’s an easy way to emphasize your colour scheme. I want a fall wardrobe full of clean, minimal shapes, lots of black, white and grey […]
While doing research for this post on dip dying I came across the idea of dip dying/colour blocking/painting the bottom of a tin can with a pastel colour! So simple, but very cool in my opinion :) The same night I made my own version from a can of peas and I’ve been using it ever since to store my everyday make up essentials and jewellery. I love the contrast between the shiny metal and the matte white.
About once a week I get an email by a reader asking me about my nose ring and whether they should get one too, so I thought I’d do a little FAQ and show you some of my favourite inspirations to make your decision a little easier. I’ve had my nose piercing for two years now, and I love it. It’s hard to explain, but I really like the look of girls with little studs or smaller rings, especially if […]
I’m really into grey nail polish at the moment. I bought this dark grey colour as an experiment, and never thought I would like that much, but for the rest of the summer I wanted to find a lighter, creamier grey. I found the perfect shade in Maybelline’s Forever Strong range, called gris nudge, no. 795. I love the formula, it really does last a full 7 days without chipping. I’m all for finding the one routine that’s right for you and sticking to it but in summer your skin faces very different conditions so a few little tweaks are generally necessary. Here are some tips for dealing with more humidity, heat and, of course, sun exposure:
This is my first real product review on this blog because there are already so many reviews for most products out there, I never thought another one was necessary. But I haven’t found many opinions on the new Born Lippy Sticks from the Body Shop, and they definitely deserve a mention! I’m actually really into the Body Shop right now, they have the most yummy smelling products. They just came out with some new lip balms/lip products including the Born Lippy […]
I might not wear make-up everyday, but I always wear nail polish. Pretty much every day of the year. Not only because I like playing around with colour, and the application itself feels like meditation for me. Nail polish also keeps my nails healthy. I realise this might sound a little counterintuitive. A while ago someone asked me: “How come your nails look so nice even though you always wear nail polish? Some commenters have also said something like “I […]
I love pretty much all products from Lush, they smell ridiculously delicious and are made with all-natural (and vegetarian) ingredients. I’m especially into their exfoliating body butters and shower scrubs but they are really expensive for the amount of uses you get out of them. Fortunately, scrubs are super easy to make at home as there are lots of natural ingredients that can do the job just as well as the Lush or drugstore products. I’ve come across quite a number […]
Some of you have been asking about my skin care routine, so here it is…. I have relatively normal skin, perhaps leaning a little on the dry side. I am super militant about skin care, because if I don’t wash my face at night, I will for sure wake up with a breakout; but as long as I wash it, I won’t. I’ve used the 3-step system from Clinique for dry/combination skin (which basically means normal-dry skin) for about 6 […]
The four nail polishes I’ve worn the most this month completely reflect my new favourite colour scheme of lots of white with lavender and turquoise or light green. I just finished shooting another DIY in those colours and I’ve been wearing my braid bracelet nonstop since I made it :). I don’t know why white nails haven’t been more popular, I think they are the perfect match for all minimal-but-edgy outfits. Oooh, and I just found out about American Apparel’s […]
